Underwater resolve (animated)

BRAVE animation
-
BRAVE was the theme of a contest held during GREATIVITY 2023, for which we had to make a minute-long movie. I had the honor of being part of a team of five as the 2d illustrator. This experience taught me a lot, and truly showed me what I want to do. Working alongside my team of talented people who know their capabilities, and realize how my skills may be applied was an absolute pleasure. We had 48 hours to create all assets and animation except the initial character sketches and turnarounds.
I also dealt with shot composition, shooting and cutting up the whole movie in live action so we could then use that as direction for our 3d people and my animations. We used that short movie to get feedback on our cuts, composition, and flow.

I don't remember with certainty how much time I had for this shot, but I can guarantee it was under two hours, due to the time getting shorter to the presentation time.

This depicts the moment the character is given up underwater, almost drowning, but that spark of hope does not leave them, and as it reaches their eyes they choose to fight and persevere. It was also done as one of the last parts of the project since I was slotting in for scenes that we would not have had the time to animate in 3D. It was a nice coincidence that all the scenes I ended up making were connected to the spark of hope.
